Privacy Policy

Your conversations belong to you. ParroTalk processes everything on-device — your data never leaves your phone unless you choose to sync via your own iCloud.

Overview

ParroTalk (“ParroTalk,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is an AI-powered English speaking practice app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. We built ParroTalk with privacy as a foundational principle — everything happens on your device. We do not operate any servers that store your conversations, voice recordings, or learning content.

This Privacy Policy explains what limited information is processed, where it lives, and what choices you have. By using ParroTalk, you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

ParroTalk has no third-party analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting SDKs, no tracking. We don't collect personal data. All AI runs on your device using Apple's Foundation Model. Sync uses your private iCloud — we never see it.

Data We Collect

We do not collect personal information. ParroTalk does not transmit user data to any servers we control. Inside the app, you may enter the following information, which is stored locally on your device:

  • Your nickname — used to personalize Parro's responses. Stored in local app data.
  • Learning preferences — your level, interests, and conversation settings. Stored locally.
  • Session history — the conversations you've had with Parro. Stored locally, optionally synced via your private iCloud.
  • Streak data — your daily practice activity. Stored locally, optionally synced via iCloud.
  • Vocabulary progress — the words you've learned. Stored locally.

Apple's App Store privacy declaration for ParroTalk shows no collected data types and no tracking (NSPrivacyTracking = false).

On-Device AI Processing

ParroTalk uses on-device AI capabilities provided by your Apple device. Specifically:

  • Apple Intelligence Foundation Model — Apple's on-device LLM processes your conversations and generates Parro's responses. No conversation content leaves your device.
  • Speech Recognition (Speech-to-Text) — your voice is processed on-device. Audio is not recorded, retained, or sent anywhere.
  • Text-to-Speech with SSML — Parro's voice is synthesized on-device. No audio is uploaded.

The only API we access is UserDefaults for local preferences. We do not use third-party AI services, cloud LLMs, remote transcription, or any external service that would require sending your conversation content over the internet.

iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud Sync in ParroTalk, your session history, streak data, and vocabulary progress are synced through your personal Apple iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data lives in your private iCloud container.

We never access this data. CloudKit is managed end-to-end by Apple between your devices. iCloud Sync is a toggle in the app settings — you can disable it at any time. When disabled, your data remains on the local device only.

Subscriptions & Payment

ParroTalk uses Apple's StoreKit 2 framework for in-app subscriptions. All payment processing is handled by Apple — we do not receive, store, or process payment card information. Subscription status is validated locally using Apple's receipt framework and securely cached in your device's Keychain.

Apple may share aggregated, non-personal sales information with us as part of standard App Store reporting. This information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

No Tracking, No Analytics, No Ads

We deliberately exclude all forms of tracking and analytics from ParroTalk. The app contains no third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, attribution, crash reporting, or behavioral tracking. We do not use cookies (the app is not a website), pixel trackers, fingerprinting, or any cross-app identifiers.

Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework is not invoked because the app does not engage in any tracking activity that would require it.

Where Your Data Lives

  • Local device storage — app preferences, vocabulary, session history (via Apple's SwiftData framework).
  • Keychain — subscription validation receipts (encrypted by iOS).
  • UserDefaults — app preferences such as theme, sound settings, onboarding state.
  • iCloud (optional) — encrypted sync of session history, streak data, and vocabulary via your private CloudKit container, managed by Apple.

Data Retention & Deletion

Your data lives on your device until you delete it. You can:

  • Delete the app — removes all local data including preferences, session history, vocabulary, and Keychain entries.
  • Disable iCloud Sync — your iCloud-synced ParroTalk data can be removed from iCloud via Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
  • Reset in-app data — use the “Reset Progress” option in Profile settings to clear your local learning history.

Children's Privacy

ParroTalk is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the app does not collect personal data at all, this policy is enforced by design. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that requires our attention, please contact us at the address below.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as ParroTalk evolves. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, surfaced in the app. Continued use of ParroTalk after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Your Rights

Because ParroTalk does not collect personal data and does not transmit content to servers we control, the rights you might exercise under regulations like the GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), or similar privacy laws are largely fulfilled by the architecture of the app itself: you already have full control over your data.
