Privacy Policy

Your conversations belong to you. ParroTalk processes everything on your device, and nothing you say ever leaves it. The only data shared is anonymous crash and usage diagnostics, which you can switch off, plus optional sync through your own iCloud.

Overview

ParroTalk (“ParroTalk,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is an AI-powered English speaking practice app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. We built ParroTalk with privacy as a foundational principle — everything happens on your device. We do not operate any servers that store your conversations, voice recordings, or learning content.

This Privacy Policy explains what limited information is processed, where it lives, and what choices you have. By using ParroTalk, you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

All AI, speech recognition and your practice recordings stay on your device. We don't collect personal data and there are no ads. The app sends anonymous diagnostics (crash reports, usage events and timing traces) to Firebase so we can fix bugs, never a conversation, recording or transcript, and you can turn that off under Profile → Preferences → Share diagnostics. No tracking across apps, no advertising identifier. Sync uses your private iCloud, we never see it.

Data We Collect

We do not collect personal information. ParroTalk does not transmit user data to any servers we control. Inside the app, you may enter the following information, which is stored locally on your device:

  • Your nickname — used to personalize Parro's responses. Stored in local app data.
  • Learning preferences — your level, interests, and conversation settings. Stored locally.
  • Session history — the conversations you've had with Parro. Stored locally, optionally synced via your private iCloud.
  • Streak data — your daily practice activity. Stored locally, optionally synced via iCloud.
  • Vocabulary progress — the words you've learned. Stored locally.

Apple's App Store privacy declaration for ParroTalk lists five diagnostic data types (crash data, performance data, other diagnostic data, product interaction and device ID), each not linked to you and not used for tracking (NSPrivacyTracking = false). Nothing else is collected.

On-Device AI Processing

ParroTalk uses on-device AI capabilities provided by your Apple device. Specifically:

  • Apple Intelligence Foundation Model — Apple's on-device LLM processes your conversations and generates Parro's responses. No conversation content leaves your device.
  • Speech Recognition (Speech-to-Text) — your voice is transcribed by Apple's on-device speech recognizer. ParroTalk requires on-device recognition and never falls back to Apple's servers. If the on-device English model is not installed yet, recognition is unavailable and the app tells you how to enable it.
  • Practice recordings — each of your turns is saved as a small audio file (.m4a) in the app's private storage so you can replay it in History. Recordings never leave your device. They are not uploaded and are not part of iCloud sync. Deleting a session (History → Delete) or deleting the app removes them.
  • Text-to-Speech with SSML — Parro's voice is synthesized on-device. No audio is uploaded.

We do not use third-party AI services, cloud LLMs, remote transcription, or any external service that would require sending your conversation content over the internet.

iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud Sync in ParroTalk, your session history and streak data are synced through your personal Apple iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data lives in your private iCloud container.

We never access this data. CloudKit is managed end-to-end by Apple between your devices. iCloud Sync is a toggle in the app settings — you can disable it at any time. When disabled, your data remains on the local device only.

Subscriptions & Payment

ParroTalk uses Apple's StoreKit 2 framework for in-app subscriptions. All payment processing is handled by Apple — we do not receive, store, or process payment card information. Subscription status is validated locally using Apple's receipt framework and securely cached in your device's Keychain.

Apple may share aggregated, non-personal sales information with us as part of standard App Store reporting. This information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Diagnostics, No Tracking, No Ads

ParroTalk uses three Google Firebase services for diagnostics: Crashlytics (crash reports), Analytics without the advertising identifier (anonymous usage events, such as how often a feature is used) and Performance Monitoring (timing traces, for example how long a reply takes). All three are disclosed in the App Store privacy labels, none of the data is linked to you and none is used for tracking. Conversations, recordings and transcripts are never sent.

The Share diagnostics toggle in Profile → Preferences turns all three off. Diagnostics captured while you are offline are only uploaded once you are back online.

There are no advertising SDKs, no attribution SDKs and no cross-app identifiers. We do not use cookies (the app is not a website), pixel trackers or fingerprinting. Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt is not shown because the app does not track you across apps or websites (NSPrivacyTracking = false).

Where Your Data Lives

  • Local device storage — app preferences, vocabulary, session history and practice recordings (via Apple's SwiftData framework and the app's private files).
  • Keychain — subscription validation receipts (encrypted by iOS).
  • UserDefaults — app preferences such as theme, sound settings, onboarding state.
  • iCloud (optional) — encrypted sync of session history and streak data via your private CloudKit container, managed by Apple. Recordings stay on the device.

Data Retention & Deletion

Your data lives on your device until you delete it. You can:

  • Delete the app — removes all local data including preferences, session history, vocabulary, and Keychain entries.
  • Disable iCloud Sync — your iCloud-synced ParroTalk data can be removed from iCloud via Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
  • Delete sessions — in History, long-press a session (or use its VoiceOver actions) and choose Delete. Its messages and recordings are removed with it.

Children's Privacy

ParroTalk is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the app does not collect personal data at all, this policy is enforced by design. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that requires our attention, please contact us at the address below.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as ParroTalk evolves. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, surfaced in the app. Continued use of ParroTalk after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Your Rights

Because ParroTalk does not collect personal data, does not transmit content to servers we control and lets you switch the anonymous diagnostics off, the rights you might exercise under regulations like the GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), or similar privacy laws are largely fulfilled by the architecture of the app itself: you already have full control over your data.
